The VIVA! Project promotes an exchange among groups engaged in community arts and popular education in the Americas. Starting as a participatory action research project among eight groups in five countries in 2004, VIVA culminated its first phase in 2007, producing a bilingual (Spanish-English) book and nine videos.
Beginning in 2008, VIVA! began its second phase, opening its network and the webpage to individuals and organizations involved in community arts and popular education and communications in the hemisphere. We envision this site as a tool for people engaged in this creative and critical work to share their stories of struggle and inspiration, to learn from each other’s practices, to create collaborative projects across borders, and to strengthen community arts and popular education and communication networks.
We invite groups and networks to mount their own projects or networks within these pages; we will be including, for example, a database of Canadian projects, as well as links to the CEAAL network in Latin America, and the Community Arts Network in the U.S.
